I haven't read any of his books but your introduction to this one means it's a must read! I love the illustrations too. We often see a few Eider ducks on the Northumberland and Scottish borders coast, the males are beautiful with their distinctive streamline head. I'd love to think some of these may have been under the loving, watchful eye of Anna on the little island, but I see from my trusty RSPB Pocket Birds book that some do breed on the northern Scottish coast. Ah well, you never know...🦆😊
I thought to myself reading this at first that the said island sounds like heaven to me, away from everyone (perhaps except my beloved cat) humans that is, and just enjoy my solitude reading books!
But as you write, the author learns the importance of human connection which in our fast paced world is much ignored or even feared in some cases…( it can be a very difficult thing)
I will definitely read this book Miranda, Thank you for your beautiful words xxx
What a fascinating story…so many interesting elements in it… nature, self-discovery,human connections, ancient traditions. Thank you Miranda for this beautiful review! A book not to be missed.💙📖
This is such a wonderful review, Miranda. I can see this is a book with many underlying themes and it sounds so unusual. I can’t wait to read it and have decided to treat myself to this. Thank you.
I have his book 'The Shepherd's Life' and found it really interesting to read. I can understand his need to escape the farm to have an adventure. I love watching the Eider ducks we have them here on the north east coast of Scotland. I am very interested in reading a book about the Eider ducks off the North Coast of Norway. I read the sample from Blackwells and it is beautifully written. Thank you Miranda!
I so enjoyed your beautiful and thoughtful review! Thank you for bring Rebanks to my attention. I resonate so strongly with that tension between the desire for solitude/escapism and connection. This is a must-read for sure!
Thank you for this wonderful review. I’ve been holding out on ordering the book, waiting to read a review from a trusted source, but will now push the purchase button. 😊
